Happy Holidays

December 21, 2009 at 8:53 pm (Events)

With the holidays coming up, as well as the fact I want to get some heavy word counts logged before the new year, I’m going to be taking a break for the next two weeks. I hope you have a very happy holiday season, and wish everybody a peaceful and successful 2010. My gift to you is this video, which always takes me right back to high school. Enjoy.

(They all look so young! And check out those awesome 80’s hair styles. Mullets, anyone? Except for Sting, who seems to be rocking a grown-out bowl cut. God, I miss the 80’s.)

They all look so serious. Seriously into partying that is! C’mon it was the 80’s after all.

Oh, Pam, you just rocketed me back to that time. And I had the same reaction about them being young–Bono, George Michael and the Duran Duran guys when they barely had facial hair… I remember taking part in the Hands Across America thing about a year and a half after this was released, and a few of us were joking about singing this song (but we didn’t because it was May πŸ™‚ ). We *did* sing the “Hands” theme song plus “We Are the World” when we were in the line. And some guy with a guitar played “American Pie” on the bus, which seemed so retro at the time–LOL!

Wishing you and Montana Happy Holidays. Thanks for sharing the memories, and GO YOU on that wordcount!!

    Happy Holidays sweetie!

I LOVE LOVE this song, just wish I could find it on iTunes. Anyway, it’s a wonderful memory and there’s plenty of eye candy to keep me happy.

    Hey there.

Thanks for the flashback. I dragged my kids over to show them THE video of my Christmas youth. They just rolled their eyes at their momma singing and dancing like a fool.

    Merry Christmas to you too.

Montana–yeah, makes you wonder about the after-party, doesn’t it? Musicians in London in the mid-80’s? Yeah, there was some serious imbibing going on. πŸ™‚

Marilyn–I knew you’d love this! (And I was seriously considering the We Are the World video.) And yes, I remember Hands Across America, but I don’t remember them coming through Montana (the state, not my honey!) πŸ˜‰

Coffee–Happy holidays to you, too! Bummer that this song isn’t on iTunes. Might have to actually go buy it on disc! *gasp* Glad you like the eye candy. πŸ˜‰

Gibb–Hi! Thanks for visiting! And I’m glad to hear I’m not the only one dancing unabashedly to 80’s tunes (you are sooo in the right place for that!) but I’m not brave enough to do it in front of anybody, so you’re much more confident than I am. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to check out your blog! Merry merry! πŸ˜€

Actually I just checked and it is on iTunes, if I want to buy an entire album of pop Christmas music . . . giving it serious thought.

Hey, that video contains at least 4 or 5 of my earliest rock star crushes so it’s definitely full of eye candy.

Thanks for the blast to the past, Pam! I’m trying to remember what I was doing the first time I heard that song. Happy Holiday wishes to you and Montana! And may the new year be especially bright!

Wow! This is fifth grade time for me, but it absolutely takes me back to big hair, sloppy sweatshirts, legwarmers, and great music. Thanks for the time machine! πŸ™‚

And if anyone wants to buy just the song, amazon has the mp3 for 89 cents. http://tinyurl.com/ylgmxyd

    Merry Christmas!!!!!

Coffee–now I’m dying to know which crushes! πŸ˜‰

Robin–I knew you’d like it! And here’s to a fabulous 2010 to you and yours, too! πŸ™‚

Jenifer–yeah, the 80s will never go out of style here. And thanks for the Amazon link–I never think to look there for some reason. Hope your Christmas was merry, too! πŸ˜€

You want to know the crushes? Here’s the list.

Paul Young – always had a crush on this man, always and forever.

Jon Moss from Culture Club – hey I was 14, what did I know?

Then there is the Taylors of Duran Duran. I rotated amongst the three for years. Always a little more fond of Roger and Andy than John, but well, I had a local boy that looks a lot like John so it was all good.

I imagine them telling Boy George he had to stand in the background and just add the “Awwwwww” part as his primary contribution. “Yeah, Yeah, whatever George. Just don’t block my Flock of Seagulls hair.”

Oops…forgot to say Merry Christmas, Pam!!

I hope you’re rocking out that word count.
